What is DSD?
DSD (Direct Stream Digital) is a high-resolution audio format used primarily in high-end digital audio playback systems. It was originally developed by Sony and Philips for use in SACDs (Super Audio CDs) and is known for delivering extremely detailed and natural sound.
How DSD Works:
-
Unlike traditional PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) used in CDs (like 16-bit/44.1kHz), DSD uses a 1-bit signal at a very high sampling rate — typically 2.8224 MHz (64x CD quality).
-
Instead of storing the absolute value of each sample like PCM, DSD records changes in the audio signal, capturing the waveform with incredible precision.
